TikTok Is UK's Fastest Growing News Source, Says Report

TikTok is the fastest growing news source among British adults, a survey by the UK's communications regulator, Ofcom, has found.
The Ofcom survey counted anyone aged 16 or over as an adult. Its findings are based on around 1,700 online interviews, as well as about 1,000 face-to-face interviews, which were done so the research would include groups that may not use the internet often — or at all.
According to Ofcom's report, TikTok is used for news by 7% of survey participants, which could mean it's used by 3.9 million British adults. This is an increase from just 1% — or 0.8 million — in 2020. And just over half of those using TikTok for news are aged between 16 and 24.
However, the most popular news source for young adults is Instagram, used by nearly half of 16-to-24-year-olds.
Among those using TikTok for news, 44% say they get their information from other people they follow, while only 24% say they get it from accounts operated by news organizations.
Television is still the top source of news for British adults, with 74% saying it's where they go to find out what's happening in the world.
