Air New Zealand Named 2022's Safest Airline

Airline comparison website AirlineRatings.com has released its list of the top 20 safest airlines in 2022 — and the winner is Air New Zealand.

The website looked at 385 airlines, and compared a number of things to decide which one was the safest. This included if the airline had had a crash over the past five years, or had any other serious incidents over the past two years, as well as its COVID-19 safety measures and how old its planes are.

AirlineRatings.com said Air New Zealand flies in some of the world's most difficult weather conditions and remotest places. It also said the planes are only an average of about 7 years old, and the airline uses a lot of new technology and safety measures.

The second safest airline in 2022 is the UAE's Etihad Airways, followed by Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines and TAP Air Portugal.

However, AirlineRatings.com Editor-in-Chief Geoffrey Thomas said, "There is very little between the top 20 — they are all standouts."
