西元十世紀左右，在英國大不列顛島西南部的威爾斯，人們開始在高溫的石頭上，烘烤添加酵母的蛋糕充飢。十九世紀，人們改在淺鍋上煎餅，特別是維多利亞時代，而英國的杜立巷(Drury Lane ），正是鬆餅人的聚集地。
